WA’s regional energy provider is warning Gascoyne residents to be aware of door-to-door sales scammers.

There have been reports from the Gascoyne and Kimberley of sales representatives pretending to be from Horizon Power and offering quotes and rebates on solar installation.

According to Horizon Power, the scammers have also asked residents for deposits.

It’s believed no one in the Gascoyne has lost any money as a result of the scam.

Horizon Power said it did not conduct door-to-door sales or cold calls, install or take deposits for solar, nor did it provide quotes for installation.

Customer and community manager Linsey Millard said it was important for customers to take precautions to avoid being scammed.

“We encourage customers to use Horizon Power’s online solar savings calculator to verify any figures they are provided by solar providers and to get multiple quotes before committing to a purchase,” she said.

“After-sales support and maintenance is also a key consideration and we recommend using a local installer who is able to physically attend to any maintenance items that may arise with your system.

“Most importantly, if someone door knocks or calls claiming to be selling something on behalf of Horizon Power, be sure to reach out to one of our local offices and we can verify this for you.”

Residents can verify their chosen solar installer has the correct accreditation by visiting the Solar Accreditation Australia website.
