Narrogin creatives and art lovers will soon have an improved gallery to exhibit local and Statewide talent.

Arts Narrogin was one of 10 regional WA galleries to receive a share of more than $270,000 in funding from the Public Regional Galleries Improvement Fund for upgrades.

Arts Narrogin business manager Casey Sutton said this was the first stage of elevating regional galleries to a professional level and it would be exciting for Arts Narrogin to be able to display touring exhibitions with the rest of WA.

“It’s going to give local artists a beautiful space to present their work, and it’ll hopefully enable us to get different touring exhibitions into the community,” she said.

“Things from Art On The Move and possibly different State collections.

“It’ll help us present exhibitions all year round as well and have different workshops, and have a lot more happening.”

The fund was designed to support and increase regional accessibility to high-quality art, performances and cultural experiences.

The funding is available for 12 months and Ms Sutton said they will hopefully finish their upgrades by August next year.

“We’d really like to install professional gallery lighting throughout the front rooms, and some portable modular gallery walls,” she said.

“We’ll be repainting and replacing the carpet, putting picture railing in the hallway and second room, and updating security systems.

“It’s very expensive, there’s no way that we could afford to do that on our own and it’s hard to find funding for this sort of stuff.”

Ms Sutton said Arts Narrogin is looking forward to future opportunities and plans on extending to technical and projection art.
