Darkan bushfire: Volunteer and farmer units working to contain 800ha bushfire in shire of West Arthur

Volunteer fire units and emergency services are working to contain an 800ha bushfire about 5km from the town of Darkan in the shire of West Arthur. Emergency services were called to the fire near Dunleath Road and Coalfields Road on Sunday after a triple-0 call was made about 1pm. Farmer units were already attending the blaze — understood to have been sparked by a header — when 12 volunteer bush fire brigades and fire and rescue crews from Darkan and surrounding shires arrived. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a bushfire advice at 3.29pm on Sunday for people in an area bounded by Coalfields Road, Moodiarrup Road, the Arthur River, Schinzig Buller Road, and Darkan Road South in Darkan and Bokal in the shire of West Arthur. With the help of three water bombers from Narrogin, the fire was controlled by 8.30pm but units remained on the scene on Monday, working to contain the blaze, with a movement ban in place until 1pm because of the hot weather and high winds.
