The Narrogin and Districts Netball Association had a successful campaign attending the Great Southern Regional Championships in Esperance at the weekend.

Four junior teams, one senior team, eight umpires and two umpire coaches attended.

Esperance Netball Association hosted the competition for the first time with games held at the newly built Esperance Indoor Stadium.

The 18-and-under team, coached by Erin Streeton and managed by Mandy Harrington, had some tough competition against Esperance, Albany and Denmark.

For some of these girls it was the their last year in the Rising Stars program and the girls played well as a team, displaying great sportsmanship.

They also stepped up to fill in for the open team who had some last-minute scrambling for players.

The team managed to make up their numbers with players from Albany, Esperance and Katanning joining the ladies from Narrogin.

The team won one game which placed them fifth and entered them into the division two grand final where they came up with a win against Katanning, 65-28.

The 16-and-under team, coached by Sarah Corner and managed by Kristie Nottle, played five games against teams from Katanning, Albany, Esperance and Denmark.

They won three of their five games, with their hardest coming against Albany 1 where they fought very hard against a tall opposition.

The last quarter was evenly scored but their run was too late, losing the game 12-36 and they just missed out on a spot in the grand final, finishing third on the ladder.

The under-14s girls were boosted by the returns of Kiesha Bransby and Bella Logie from injury, both providing a big boost in attack.

The co-captains Isabella Budby and Abbey Steere provided great leadership to the girls, who all showed tremendous development and improvement throughout the weekend and the entire program.

Coaches Kelly Steere and Ellie Sheridan, supported by manager Britt Logie awarded the game ball to Claudia Bransby, who showed amazing growth in the goalkeeper position and was a pillar in defence the entire weekend.

The 13-and-under team, coached by Lee Conlan and managed by Jenni Tullett, knew they had some hard games ahead for the weekend playing in the above division.

The players rose to the occasion and showed great resilience, sportsmanship and were just happy to be playing netball, no matter what the score.

They played seven tough games, finishing on a high on Sunday with their one win for the round against Kojonup.

The game ball was awarded to Latika Baxter for her improvement in skills and awesome defence throughout the weekend.
