City to Surf secures three more years in Karratha
Western Australia’s longest-running community fun run will remain in Karratha for the next three years, with the City of Karratha committing sponsorship to support the event.
The Chevron City to Surf for Activ, a family-friendly fun run catering to all ages and abilities, will continue to offer both 4km and 12km courses for participants to walk or run in Karratha and Perth.
Karratha remains the only regional location in the State to host the event, which is expected to draw hundreds of participants when it takes place on July 27.
The city has agreed to contribute $75,000 over three years through its major event sponsorship and attraction program to help deliver the event.
City of Karratha mayor Daniel Scott highlighted the event’s importance to the community, emphasising its longstanding tradition and impact.
“Since its inception in 1975, the Chevron City to Surf for Activ has grown from hundreds to thousands of participants and raised more than $10 million for people living with disability,” Mr Scott said.
He encouraged locals of all fitness levels to get involved and said the event provided an opportunity for the community to come together.
“I’m looking forward to participating in this year’s event and seeing so many residents having fun and hitting the pavement for a good cause,” he said.
With the city’s backing, the event is set to remain a key part of Karratha’s sporting and social calendar for years to come.
