Bonuses in Telstra rollout

Locals will be able to receive incoming calls from payphones and pay less for the services as Telstra begins rolling out its modernisation project this month.

For the first time nationwide, the publicly accessible payphones will be able to receive incoming calls, allowing members of the community to remain connected without a mobile or at a cost to them.

On June 1, Telstra also announced calls to 11 international destinations would be priced at 50¢ per 10 minutes.

Domestically, calling a fixed landline in Australia will incur a simple flat call rate of 50¢, while calls to Australian mobiles will go from being 50¢ per 35 seconds to the same price for 10 minutes.

The project will target all 1800 payphones across the country, including the:

28 in the Kalgoorlie Boulder area.

10 in Manjimup

38 in the City of Greater Geraldton

29 in the City of Albany

59 across Waroona, Collie, Bunbury, Capel

19 across Busselton, Dunsborough, Yallingup

14 across Margaret River and Augusta

Telstra announced additional payphone features would eventually be rolled out, including digital screens, Wi-Fi, 5G enabled technology and mobile device charging, as well as providing a space for communicating everything from emergency alerts to weather and tourist advice.
