Kalgoorlie-Boulder industrial estate expansion works to start next month with Ertech handed $30.8m contract

An expansion of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s industrial estate is one step closer as the State Government yesterday announced it had awarded the $30 million-plus contract for construction to begin. Lands Minister John Carey was in the city yesterday to announce Ertech would start stage one of the Yilkari Industrial Park construction next month. The first stage of the 138ha development, which neighbours the Anzac Drive Industrial Estate, will deliver 26 general industrial lots ranging from 2500sqm to 2ha, with more than 70 lots expected over the next decade. Mr Carey said the investment would help diversify and grow the local economy, with the completed estate expected to create more than 850 permanent jobs and inject more than $300m into the Kalgoorlie-Boulder economy annually. “By creating hundreds of new jobs and enabling businesses to expand or establish operations in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, we are positioning this region as a prime destination for investment and economic growth,” he said. “The Goldfields has long been a powerhouse of Western Australia’s resources sector, and this development will ensure that both new and existing businesses can capitalise on the growing demand for gold, rare earths and lithium processing. “This $30.8 million investment will provide the necessary utilities, transportation links and land availability, driving economic diversification and job opportunities for the Goldfields.” The development is expected to attract more than $200m in private sector investment and create more than 700 construction jobs over the next decade. Member for Kalgoorlie Ali Kent said the Labor Government understood the importance of investing in regional infrastructure to support the Goldfields’ thriving resources industry. “By directing investment to this critical project, we are sending a clear message that the Goldfields region is open for business,” she said. “We encourage companies operating in the resources sector to take advantage of this prime industrial estate and contribute to the continued growth and success of Kalgoorlie-Boulder as a mining and processing hub.” The lots developed in stage one of the estate will be serviced with power, water, NBN and a new intersection with Anzac Drive to cater for heavy RAV10 vehicles.
