Fewer members of the Katanning community will go hungry this Christmas after some very young residents hosted a fundraising drive.

After visiting the Katanning Regional Emergency Accommodation Centre earlier in the school term, Katanning’s Cub and Joey Scouts, all aged between five and 10 years old, came up with an idea.

“The Scouts wanted to help out, so they set up a food drive to gather donations of non-perishable foods and toiletries”, Cub Scout leader Ella Maesepp said.

“They made collection boxes and arranged with their schools to locate the boxes there.”

Scouts spoke at their school assemblies and put notices in school newsletters to draw attention to their fundraising drive.

They managed to gather more than a dozen boxes of donated items during their appeal, which were then donated last week to KREAC and Katanning Community Harvest.
