A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for areas of WA as storms are set to hit many parts of the country.

The Bureau of Meteorology has cited damaging winds, large hailstones, and heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding on Monday afternoon in WA’s South Interior, including Warburton.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises people should:

  • Stay away from trees, power lines, stormwater drains and streams
  • Close curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows
  • Unplug electrical appliances and do not use landline phones if there is lightning
  • Use pillowcases filled with sand around doorways to protect homes if there is flooding
  • Leave the water if boating, swimming or surfing
  • Stay alert on the roads

The storms are expected to continue throughout the week, with the next weather update to be issued at 6.20pm.

Severe thunderstorm warnings have also been issued in South Australia, Queensland, NSW and the ACT.

On the other end of the weather scale is a severe heatwave warning for the Kimberley, Pilbara and North Interior Districts that started on Saturday.

Much of the State remains warm and mostly clear for Tuesday, with Perth sunny and reaching a top temperature of 25C.
