Boyanup secured the double-header win in the South West Hockey League on Saturday, claiming both the men’s and women’s A1 premierships at Bunbury Hockey Stadium.

The club’s men’s side were able to reverse a shock qualifying final defeat to Marist into a 3-1 grand final victory, while the women’s decider saw the outfit edge past Associates in a narrow 1-0 win.

In the men’s game, Boyanup found themselves three goals to the good at the final break after scoring in each of the first three terms, but Marist pulled a goal back in the closing stages of the final term to create some nerves before the result was sealed with a disciplined defensive performance in the closing stages.

The two teams could hardly be separated in a tight and tense women’s decider, with a converted penalty from Alyce Sewell in the first half proving decisive.

Both of the other women’s grand finals were also contested between Boyanup and Marist, with the A2 contest seeing Marist claim a thrilling 4-3 win over Boyanup and Boyanup winning the A3 clash 1-0.

Boyanup also claimed the A2 men’s premiership with a 1-0 victory over Marist, while Marist claimed the A3 flag with a 4-1 win over Associates.
