Several campsites in the South West have shifted to an online booking system allowing campers to plan their trips six months in advance.

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions has added nine new campsites to its online booking system this month, in a move the department said would provide more certainty, fairness and flexibility for travellers wanting to camp in the region.

The following campsites have been added to the DBCA’s online system and can be booked up to 180 days in advance from December 3:

  • Big Brook Arboretum — Big Brook State Forest.
  • Black Point (Seal Cove and Humpback Hollow) — D’Entrecasteaux National Park.
  • Lake Jasper — D’Entrecasteaux National Park.
  • Leaning Marri — D’Entrecasteaux National Park.
  • Grasstree Hollow — Hawke National Park.
  • Snottygobble Loop — Hawke National Park.
  • Greens Island — Proposed One Tree Bridge Conservation Area.
  • Draftys — Warren National Park.
  • Warren — Warren National Park.

DBCA’s Rod Annear said the online system would help manage demand of popular sites during peak times such as marron season.

“With camping continuing to increase in popularity, online bookings for campgrounds in popular parts of the State give holiday-makers the security of knowing they have accommodation confirmed before they arrive at their destination,” he said.

“It also allows flexibility to change or cancel bookings up to one day before arrival if plans change, freeing up the campsite to be booked by others making more spontaneous plans.”
