Bang Trinh, 76 and Hung Vo, 55, charged after police find drugs and cash following Dayton traffic stop

Two people — including a man in his mid-70s — are facing serious charges after police allegedly found a huge quantity of meth and cash following a traffic stop and a raid on a Perth home. Bang Trinh, 76 and Hung Cuong Vo, 55, were arrested and charged after police officers conducted a border search area operation at Perth Airport on Tuesday. The operation was targeting passengers arriving on domestic flights from Sydney and Melbourne. Police claim intelligence led them to Mr Trinh, who arrived on a flight from Melbourne. Police will allege he left the airport search area but came back later to collect a bag. Officers then followed him to an address in Dayton, where a traffic stop was conducted. The 76-year-old, and Mr Vo, were taken into custody after a search of the bag Mr Trinh had collected was allegedly found to contain more than 2kg of methylamphetamine. A search of the Dayton home allegedly unearthed more than $50,000 in cash, money police will allege is the proceeds of drug offences. Mr Trinh, of Balga, has been charged with one count of possessed a trafficable quantity of methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply. He made a brief appearance in the Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday for a possible bail application. But no bail application was put forward and he was remanded into custody. He will next face court on November 7. Mr Vo, from Dayton, has also been charged with three offences, including a meth trafficking charge. He also faced court on Thursday and he was also remanded into custody before his next appearance on December 5. “We are pleased that 2kg of meth has been taken off our streets and out of the hands of criminals in our community,” Det-Supt John Hutchison said. “Anyone considering being involved in the transportation of illicit drugs into Western Australia should think twice.”
