Dalkeith home targeted with neo-nazi graffiti as Australia grapples with wave of antisemitic attacks

A Dalkeith home has been targeted with anti-Semitic graffiti, with WA Police confirming they are investigating the incident and another further down the same street. Images show the home — on Viking Road in Dalkeith — with a nazi swastika and “f... Jews” spray painted on a brick wall. A WA Police spokeswoman said officers were investigating the two incidents, the other being about 400 metres away near the Nardina Crescent intersection. It involved a graffitied real estate For Sale sign outside another residence. A doctor who lives across from the currently vacant property and did not want to be identified said it had been daubed with the words “WA Labor nazis”. “That, in itself, is very shocking and distressing,” she told The West Australian. “What’s happening? What’s instigating this kind of behaviour? “In the eastern states, as you know, there is a bit of rumbling going on at the moment. “But we cannot even imagine somewhere like Dalkeith, a neighbourhood which is so peaceful, so multicultural, that somebody could write or do such a thing. “The words of the police were that ‘this is a kind of racist behaviour’.” The owner of the property sprayed with the swastika, however, who also wanted anonymity, said he was “disappointed with humanity” but hoped it was just kids being stupid. “I don’t think it’s anything personal, probably really dumb kids doing dumb kids’ stuff,” the man said. “Hopefully, that’s the best explanation. “Because if you think of all the people you could associate yourself with in history, you really don’t have many more people abhorrent than that (the nazis). “Hopefully, you know, someday, they’ll wake up and go ‘geez, I was an idiot’.” A neighbour across the street, again anonymously, said the vandalism was “pretty disturbing” but also believed it was not targeted. “They’ve just picked a wall. We presume that,” she said. “We’ve all got security, but no one’s captured anything. Police have checked all of those. “My children have Jewish friends. And there are so many children on the street, asking their parents ‘What does that mean, mummy?’ “I think that’s so abhorrent that anyone could even think of doing such a thing.” Asked about the incident, Premier Roger Cook said he had not been briefed but condemned any anti-Semitic behaviour in WA. “WA is a peaceful community. We are a community where people live together in a cohesive and harmonious society,” Mr Cook said. “We want to maintain that, particularly at this particular point in time when you see global conflicts starting to impact people’s lives here in WA. “The way we do that is to stop this right-wing, white supremacist language where it starts in social media. “We want to stop everyone from actually following these insidious, cowardly, nasty people, and it’s up for all of us to do our bit to condemn it.” Former treasurer Josh Frydenberg, whose great-grandparents were murdered at Auschwitz, posted on X that Perth had joined Sydney and Melbourne in having anti-Semitic attacks in the past 24 hours. “The epidemic of Jew Hate is a national crisis,” he wrote. “With Federal Parliament resuming this week, the Government must act and stop this domestic terrorism.” A ranger on site said the council had swiftly removed the sign and painted over the offending words on the wall. “In 24 years ... this is the first time I’ve ever had to attend to a job like this,” he said. “Not real great.” The homeowner said he was seeking closer-matching paint so he could cover the graffiti up more fully, which was not a nice way to spend his Sunday. He said he did not have CCTV but had been considering installing it - to catch dog walkers not picking up after their pets. The police spokeswoman said it was believed the slurs were sprayed between 6:30pm on Saturday and 7:30am on Sunday. “WA Police takes any report of racial or religiously motivated crimes extremely seriously,” she said. “There is no place for this kind of behaviour in our community and we will not tolerate crimes that undermine our way of life in Western Australia.” It comes after a spate of incidents in NSW and Victoria, with more cars and buildings spray-painted with anti-Jewish slogans overnight. Police were on Sunday investigating an overnight spate of “offensive graffiti” in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The attacks targeted vehicles and garages with spray paint, and images online show cars damaged with graffiti saying “f... Jews”. Previous attacks have included the firebombing of a synagogue and multiple cars, which were also graffitied with the nazi swastika and anti-Semitic language. The increase led Australian Federal Police to reveal overseas actors paid local criminals to conduct anti-Semitic attacks in Australia.
