Kowald stars in big win

With 13 goal scorers and veteran Sheldon Kowald turning back the clock to his goal-scoring feats at Kukerin Dumbleyung, Wanderers finished comprehensive 176-point winners over Brookton Pingelly at Quartermaine Oval last weekend.

Kowald, who has played back and forward for Wanderers over a long and distinguished career, led well and marked strongly from full- forward to finish with nine goals in the 35.23 (233) to 8.9 (57) win.

After an inaccurate five goals and seven behinds in the first quarter, Wanderers kicked 11 goals in the second quarter and an incredibly accurate 12 goals from 13 scoring shots in the third quarter.

To Brookton Pingelly's credit, they finished with a strong last quarter, kicking five goals to Wanderers' seven.

Wanderers was too strong all over the ground for an undermanned Brookton Pingelly with Kowald, Matt Nettleton, Jayden Zilm, Kane Shephard, Matt Levitzke, Rowan Nicholson, Braden Crosby, Corey Eades and Tim Fitzgerald multiple goal scorers.

For Wickepin, Cameron Jetta and Josh Hughes were their major goal scorers.

None tried harder for Wickepin than Dylan Kirk and Michael Allen in defence and Cameron Jetta in attack.

In the reserves, Wanderers consolidated their position in top spot, with a 170-point win, 28.17 (185) to 2.3 (15).

Alvin Eades booted six goals, Andrew Durack and Syd Coyne scored four goals each and James Barritt and Kai Clay contributed three goals each.

Solomon Kells, Michael Altus, Eades and Paul Keley were among the best players.

The colts team remain undefeated, after a hard-fought nine-point win, 9.2 (56) to 7.5 (47), with James Bolton kicking four goals and Brodie Kingston, Devan Mills-Durack, Kelvin Woods and Josh Pinney among the best players.

The under-14s made it four wins out of four on the day, and consolidated second place with a 6.11 (47) to 2.1 (13) win.
