Stylish ram is superfine supreme champion
It was a splendid Perth Royal Show for Misty Hills Merino stud principals Russell and Heather Meaton, of Kojonup.
Not only was their superfine merino ram judged the supreme exhibit, the stud also won the supreme fleece ribbon of the show.
It was the first time a Misty Hills entry had been named as the supreme exhibit, Mr Meaton said.
But the ram had a good record - he was named the grand champion merino ram at the Rabobank Katanning Sheep Show in August.
It is believed it is the first time a superfine ram has gained the supreme title at the Perth Royal Show.
"It is a huge ram for his type. Absolutely outstanding. It's like the ram is carrying two fleeces," New South Wales judge Hamish McLaren said.
"He is style right down to his toenails - a pretty special ram."
After the ram had earlier been sashed as the grand champion merino ram, Mr McLaren said the decision between the three judges had been unanimous.
"The ram is all Misty Hills blood and is similar to a 130kg ram we had in 2007," he said.
