Top team reunites
The year 1985 is a year the Katanning Wanderers Football Club and their players will never forget.
For the club, which also took out the title in 1983 and 1986, winning the Central Great Southern Football League grand final forms an integral part of the clubs history.
Past player Dom Laurino said for many including himself, 1985 held a special place because it was the only grand final he would ever win.
"In all the years I played footy that was the only grand final, a senior's grand final, you don't do that too often," he said.
"There is that tradition there, and strong feelings among those that have played in winning teams."
Kenny Quartermaine said with a unique blend of experienced and new players, it was a well blended team with a solid core leadership and a mix of younger and older players.
"But we were all mates, on and off the field, in a situation like that, 99 per cent of the time, you would never play with that same group of people again, and so to win with them is a good feeling," he said.
Alongside the club's 30th anniversary reunion on Saturday night, Wanderers will take on Boddington at Quartermaine Oval with the current players adorned in the traditional 1985 Guernsey.
Past player Mike Allen said despite it being "30 odd years" since the win, it was sad other players hadn't experienced it.
"We can sit back and say 'we've done it'," he said.
"But that does create atmosphere and drive, that's what we are here for, to win grand finals, and we all just want the club to be successful."
Laurino said they now had the responsibility to support and keep the club going onto the next premiership.
"Footy brings people together, one way or another, and this reunion will encourage and stir that feeling with the group," he said.
