Newspoll: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese posts his highest voter approval rating since taking office

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is ending the year on a high, posting his highest voter approval rating since taking office, according to the latest Newspoll.

After a week in which he passed controversial IR reforms and censured former prime minister Scott Morrison, Mr Albanese also enjoyed a lift in support as preferred prime minister.

The poll, published in The Australian, showed Labor’s primary vote up one percentage point to 39 per cent, with the coalition unchanged on 35 per cent.

Labor’s two-party preferred vote lead was unchanged at 55-45.

Satisfaction with Mr Albanese’s performance rose to a record high of 62 per cent. The proportion of those saying they were dissatisfied fell four points to 29 per cent.

Opposition leader Peter Dutton suffered a three-point loss in his satisfaction rating to 36 per cent.

Mr Albanese was preferred PM among 59 per cent of voters, up five points.
