AFL coach Michael Voss has been involved in a citizen’s arrest after a terrifying incident on Tuesday.

The Age is reporting Carlton coach Michael Voss was at the Barton Milk Bar in Hawthorn getting coffee when he chased after a teenager in an allegedly stolen car that had flipped.

Voss, a Brownlow medallist and multiple premiership winner for the Brisbane Lions, was known for his unflinching hardness and never-say-die attitude, crash-tackled the teen and held him until police arrived.

An onlooker, who contacted 3AW’s Jacqui Felgate, said they wanted to give Voss “a huge shoutout” for his efforts on Tuesday morning.

“While he was waiting for his coffee at our local cafe in Hawthorn, a stolen car flipped onto the footpath just outside the cafe,” they said in comments published on Felgate’s Instagram account.

“Two guys got out of the car and fled the scene. Without hesitation, Vossy ran after them and performed a citizen’s arrest.”

Police arrived at the scene and arrested the 16-year-old teenage boy from Mooroopna, after confirming the two occupants tried to flee the scene but one was detained by a member of the public.

Officers said the Mercedes lost control and rolled before it landed on its side on a footpath on Barton Street just before 9am.

Police continue to search for the second male offender, who is described as having a fair complexion, long blonde hair and wearing a black cap, black and white scarf, black hoodie and black pants.

It is understood the Mercedes was stolen from an address in Ivanhoe East on August 21.

The cafe owner Mr James Laskie told the Herald Sun: “Michael Voss started chasing them, and so I chased after them as well.”

Mr Voss pinned one of the offenders to the ground while waiting for police to arrive but the other is thought to have escaped.

“They went into an apartment block, and it’s pretty hectic, and one of them got away, but he (Voss) grabbed the second guy and had him on the floor,” Mr Laskie said.
