Josh Inglis ruled out of Border-Gavaskar Test series with injury, Big Bash season for Perth Scorchers in doubt

West Australian wicketkeeper Josh Inglis has been ruled out for the rest of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series and his Big Bash League season is in doubt with a calf strain. Inglis has been the reserve batter with the Australian side for all four Test matches so far this summer, but was injured while fielding on day two of the Melbourne Test. In a statement on Sunday, Cricket Australia said Inglis was expected to be available for the Test tour to Sri Lanka in late January. But he will be in a race to return for the end of Perth Scorchers’ BBL campaign. “His availability for the Big Bash League will be determined by his return to play management plan,” a CA spokesperson said. The Australian side will add a replacement to the squad for the Sydney Test, which begins on January 3, likely to be a batter. Beau Webster has been released to play BBL matches for Melbourne Stars, but bowling options Jhye Richardson and Sean Abbott are still with the squad. For the Scorchers, it means English import Matthew Hurst will become their first-choice gloveman. Hurst had been dropped with Inglis in the side for the defeat to Melbourne Renegades earlier this week, but returned at the top of the order for the win over Brisbane Heat on Boxing Day.
