North Melbourne are in discussions around selling two home games to Western Australia and hosting both West Coast and Fremantle in their own State.

The Kangaroos are in talks with the State Government around shifting home games to Perth and could play both WA clubs some time in June.

It is understood those matches would be on back-to-back weekends and conversations are underway around the use of Optus Stadium.

North Melbourne has a long-standing deal with Tasmania to play games at Hobart’s Blundstone Arena, but are believed to be beginning planning for beyond 2028, when that State gets its own team.

The Roos play four games a year in Hobart. They have won three of their past five matches at Optus Stadium.

North Melbourne currently play at least seven home games in Victoria and that won’t drop as part of this deal.

The Dockers and Eagles have been pushing for an extra game at home to compensate for their heavy travel load.

A State Government spokesperson said they were always interested in bringing large-scale events to WA.

“Our government’s event strategy is clearly working, with $286 million generated for our economy through major, regional and mass participation events in 2023-24,” the spokesperson told The West.

“We’re always on the lookout for events that will drive visitation, support our local economy and showcase Western Australia.”

Earlier on Tuesday it was confirmed Fremantle will play an Indigenous All-Stars team in a pre-season clash in Perth in February.

Dockers stars Alex Pearce, Michael Walters and new recruit Shai Bolton will play against the club.
