Back on the turf after a polytrack meeting on Friday and the going is bound to be heavy with the rail out two metres which will see riders avoiding the fence and coming to crown in the straight.

All horses get their chance at the Sunshine Coast but staying with local trainers has been profitable and we will stick to the plan.

Race 1- Maiden Plate 1200m

A lightly raced group with a number that have been around the mark.

The soft conditions will suit CHIEF ARTIE (3) which led for most of the way and was only narrowly beaten at Ipswich over this trip. Fitter for two outings he is perfectly drawn and will get a good run with Leah Kilner.

DEMBE (4) had support when resuming in the same race as CHIEF ARTIE but had excuses returning with the thumps. He is unknown on heavy ground but showed promise at his first preparation and this bigger track may suit.

The Game Cricket 2024-25

MORE TO ADORE (22) had support but did everything wrong when resuming at the Gold Coast. Tony Gollan horses usually improve into their preparation and on a bigger track from a good gate with Ben Thompson can make amends.

Chris Meagher can get them ready fresh and DISCRETELY ALIESHA (11) is resuming without a trial. Being by Sebring she should handle the ground and did enough at her two outings in Victoria to be competitive here. Watch for support.

KERCHAK (6) is bred for longer but David Vandyke and Ryan Maloney can’t be ignored at these Sunday meetings. He won a recent trial, is well-related and a heavy track is unlikely to bother him.

DUSTY DIAMOND (17) only battled when resuming but is by noted wet-track sire Top Echelon and can be expected to improve.

Betting Strategy- CHIEF ARTIE (3) gets his chance.

Race 2- Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1000m

All but one are first starters so on a heavy track any result is possible.

Stuart Kendrick has a good record with horses first-up at his home track and ISSHEGREY (6) won a recent trial, gets blinkers will be ready to go for Kyle Wilson-Taylor. The stablemate ALL FOR ONE (1) gets blinkers, he wasn’t seen at the trials but will have been readied by jumpouts .

LOUISIANA STAR (7) has had two solid trials and gets blinkers. The Edmonds stable have been getting winners of late and Robbie Fradd has been their go-to rider.

Kacy Fodgen is wheeling out plenty of early season two-year-olds and PRINCE OF MARAKESH (3) has shown speed at trials, is a half-brother to Two-Year-Old Group 2 winner Scarlet Rain, gets blinkers and will get every chance with Ryan Maloney. EXTREMAARTY (2) is by boom sire Extreme Choice and has shown ability at trials. With winkers and a tongue-tie he should be ready to go. PERFECT PENELOPE (8) has had three trials, is bred for speed and Michael Cahill can take advantage of a good gate,

Betting Strategy- Take your pick.

Race 3- Fillies And Mares 0-62 Handicap 1000m

Stuart Kendrick’s horses go best on their home track and APPLE TART (7) showed promise last preparation. She showed she is ready to go with a recent trial win, her only win was on a heavy track and she will get every chance with Ryan Maloney. A heavy track may worry PURPLE DIAMOND (2) but she has been consistent this preparation and whilst she may not have the class of the stablemate has fitness on her side. The third of his runners STARHATTAN (8) is resuming but won on debut over this trip, placed at a recent trial and can take advantage of the inside gate.

Darren Hansen can get them ready first-up and ALLMYLIFE (3) has only missed a place twice in 10 starts. She won’t mind a heavy track and her Victorian form is up to this grade. Watch for support.

ARTIE’S AURA (4) is another coming to a new trainer and brings solid NSW form. Her only win was on soft ground and a big track should suit.

DAINTREE DIVA (1) has changed stables and showed she was ready to with a recent trial win. She would like longer but is up to this class and a heavy track may slow some of the speedsters down late.

FIFTY FOUR SQUARES (6) disappointed at the Gold Coast but raced well at her two previous outings here over this trip and winkers may help.

Betting Strategy- APPLE TART (7) will carry mine.

Race 4- Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1600m

None of these leap off the page but the 1600m may be what a few have been looking for.

ECHOES OF MY MIND (2) kept coming when fourth on debut over 1400m. His full-brothers Bellagio and Star Echo have both won at 1600m and beyond so the extra distance should be right up his alley.

KALPANA (10) showed improvement to place behind a smart one last start. Fitter for two outings, the extra distance and bigger track will suit.

MILITARY MEN (4) made some ground when resuming. He hasn’t shown much in his three starts to date but is out of a Galileo mare and this may be the trip he has been seeking.

KING’S CONTRACT (3) has been trying for a while but is rarely far away and will get a good ride from Boris Thornton.

ITZ PARIS (9) was unsighted last start but is better suited here and with blinkers back on can improve.

Betting Strategy:- Not a race to excite.

Race 5- Class 4 Handicap 1400m

Natalie McCall must be getting frustrated with REDSTONE (8) which was found out late over 1400m here last start but a heavy track is what he likes and with Leah Kilner’s claim he carries 4.5kg less. I have tipped him at his past two outings and with conditions in his favour will go one more time.

FEDERAL AGENT (7) gets plenty of racing and fought on well at the Gold Coast last start. He is better suited on this track, won’t mind the heavy ground, drops 6.5kg and with Michael Cahill should be prominent.

FORT WAYNE (1) was racing in better class than this last preparation, loves this track and could show up fresh with Zac Lloyd’s 2kg claim.

KELLERS SHELTER (9) has been well travelled and only recently arrived from Darwin. He has had two outings for Leigh Wanless and whilst well beaten by Go Wandji last start that was in Saturday grade. His breeding suggests he could handle heavy ground and this is a more suitable class and distance,

Betting Strategy- I will go one last time with REDSTONE (8).

Race 6- Fillies And Mares Benchmark 62 Handicap 1400m

Plenty of chances here with final gates and scratchings playing a role.

RATIONS (19) was fractious and missed the start but hit the line hard when resuming at Ipswich. Brian Baldwin has put the pacifiers on and if she jumps on terms Mark Du Plessis can have her in the box seat throughout. The trainer thought enough of her to send her around in Listed company last preparation and if mentally right can be in the finish.

IF YOU CAN DREAM (6) only got going late at the Gold Coast last start when resuming and will appreciate this longer distance on a bigger track. She is working up to longer trips but may have more upside than most and her only win was on a soft track.

DULCIE TIE (1) rarely puts in a bad one, will handle heavy ground and with a 3kg claim for Jake Molloy will give them something to run down.

DEVILLAIN (3) doesn’t win out of turn but a rain affected track is her go and Justin Stanley will have her near the speed throughout.

Betting Strategy- An open race but value with RATIONS (19).

Race 7- Class 1 Handicap 1800m

Natalie McCall’s horses save their best for this track and ELEGANT DROVER (2) won a Maiden over this trip last start on a heavy track. It is always hard to go straight to a Class 1 but he shows staying promise and may have more upside than most of these.

EXPRESS DREAMS (10) fought on solidly over this trip in a Benchmark 62 last start. A heavy track is unlikely to bother here and she will near the speed throughout.

LOVEISABATTLEFIELD (6) led before being run down and well beaten at the Gold Coast last start on a Soft 7. He will get similar conditions here and fitter for four outings can give a sight again.

FLYBRIDGE (1) is stepping up significantly in trip but is fitter for two outings, likes this track and will appreciate the drop back to provincial grade.

Betting Strategy- Expect ELEGANT DROVER (2) to go on with it but may not be value.

BEST BET: APPLE TART (Race 3 No 7)
