Adam Taggart: Why I brush off rumours over my future and the lesson we can learn from this weeks opponents

I was very surprised last week to see a rumour posted on X casting doubt on my future at the club. These things do happen, unfortunately, but when they do, I just try to get on with it and focus on the things I can control. I very much appreciated our football director Stan Lazaridis coming out and saying what he did in response. I’m fully committed to the club for as long as they’ll have me and, as I’ve said previously, I want to stay for a long time and win something with Glory before I retire. Obviously this has not been the start to the season that any of us wanted, but I’m 100 per cent focused on doing everything I can as a player and captain to drive the club forward on and off the pitch. Getting back to onfield matters, Saturday’s defeat against Wellington was particularly disappointing with it being our first home game of the season. I would have loved for us to have created more in front of goal and provided our members and fans with more excitement. They will make life difficult for us in Gosford, as they always do and we need to up our performance levels, be more clinical and eliminate the mistakes that have been costing us in order to get something from the trip. On a personal note, it was nice to reach another milestone on Saturday in the form of my 150th A-League appearance. To be honest, these are the kind of things I’ll pay more attention to when my playing days are over, but it was still good to hit the 150 in front of our own supporters at HBF Park.
