The Essendon District Football League are preparing to take their competition to an entirely new level in season 2024 after striking a partnership with community sport streaming platform Streamer.

The likes of Heath Shaw, Lachie Plowman, Jake Carlisle and Ben Ronke are just some of the former AFL-listed players expected to suit up in the premier division next season with games broadcast live across every round, beginning with a Good Friday triple-header on March 29.

The games will be available to watch live, free and on demand at Streamer.com.au.

The EDFL boasts a proud history. Founded in 1930, it has since expanded to become the destination for top-tier football in the north-west metropolitan region of Melbourne.

There are currently 47 EDFL juniors on AFL and AFLW lists heading into 2024 with more potentially on the way in the upcoming AFLW draft.

Thirty-seven clubs comprise the EDFL which featured 30 senior men’s teams and 22 senior women’s teams in 2023 across three divisions in each competition.

Reigning Premier Division champions Keilor completed one of the best seasons ever seen in local footy and are headed by Mick McGuane who enjoyed the company of three ex-AFL listed Keilor juniors in Nick O’Kearney, Corey Ellis, and Damien Cavka.

The league welcomed one of the more dominant local footy clubs in Deer Park who’ll feature in the top flight after winning the Division One flag in their first year in the EDFL, headlined by Levi Greenwood who was pivotal in their premiership run.

Shaw, Plowman, Carlisle, Ronke, Ahmed Saad, Josh Honey, Matthew Watson, Ben Silvagni,and more ex-AFL players are expected to pull on EDFL jumpers in 2024.
