Super Netball 2025: West Coast Fever star Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard's career in her hands after loss of baby

West Coast Fever says it will be up to superstar Jhaniele Fowler-Nemhard whether she wants to play in 2025 after the tragic loss of her unborn baby last month. Fowler-Nembhard was set to miss all of this year after announcing her pregnancy in December and was replaced by former Melbourne Vixens and Malawi shooter Mwai Kumwenda just weeks later. Uncertainty around the future of the five-time Super Netball MVP remains though after the tragic news that the Jamaican shooter lost the baby. Fowler-Nembhard could play this year if she chose, leaving the club in an unprecedented situation if the world’s best shooter decides to return to the court in 2025. It is unclear what would happen to Kumwenda if Fowler-Nembhard decided to play, with all 11 spots on Fever’s roster filled. Kumwenda is set to travel with Fever to Bendigo, Victoria this weekend for pre-season clashes against the Melbourne Vixens and Giants ahead of the Team Girls Cup tournament in Adelaide next month. Fever released a statement on Monday around the availability of Fowler-Nembhard’s availability as round one closes in. “Our club continues to support Jhaniele and her family as they navigate this heartbreaking situation,” Fever netball boss Sue Gaudion said. “The decision of whether she returns to the court in 2025 is solely with Jhaniele and her family. “West Coast Fever asks everyone to continue to respect the privacy of Jhaniele and her family at this time.” Fowler-Nembhard has led the competition’s goal-scoring for each of the past seven seasons and was instrumental in West Coast Fever’s premiership in 2022 as well their two preliminary finals appearances in the past two years. West Coast Fever begin their season against NSW Swifts at RAC Arena on Sunday, April 6.
