GONDWANA LINK

The Gondwana Link Genestreaming Journey Sculpture Trail is under way.

It tells a dual story of human connection to country, with scientific explanation of ecosystems and the importance of conservation.

The trail’s nine sculptures (a mix of physical and augmented reality) are in Capel, Northcliffe, Denmark, Porongurup (Twin Creeks), Bremer Bay, Ravensthorpe, Wave Rock, Kellerberrin and Kings Park. The project brings together the origins in time of plants and animals, and Aboriginal culture, through artwork.

The Northcliffe sculpture was unveiled on March 8, and Ravensthorpe’s sculpture will be launched in the town’s main street on March 16.

The project, led by Carol Pettersen and Ben Beeton, has been supported by Lotterywest and local shires and sits comfortably alongside WA’s growing Geoparks network, which highlights key geological sites across the State.

NICHE POSITION

The Forum Advocating Cultural and Eco-Tourism is partnering with Geoparks WA and Astrotourism WA to present a workshop afternoon.

Called Ancient Lands, Dark Skies, Aboriginal Cultural Tourism and Geoparks in WA, the workshop is on Wednesday March 26 and will explore the latest developments and opportunities in these niche but important areas of tourism, in which WA is well placed.

It is $69 for FACET members, $59 for FACET concession members, $85 for non-members and $70 for concession non-members, and being held at CSIRO, Dick Perry Avenue, Kensington. Information at facet.asn.au (or email admin@facet.asn.au), and tickets at eventbrite.com.au.
