Resources Technology Showcase 2021: Win big while having a whole lot of glistening fun

Out with the old and in with the gold — this year’s Resources Technology Showcase activation from the Gold Industry Group will have shining prizes and activities on offer.

From building a mini car that uses renewable energy, to seeing what Australia’s gold industry has in store for the future, it’s a gleaming exhibit that will bring the industry to life with three interactive experiences for people to get involved in at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre today and tomorrow.

And all three experiences offer up prizes.

The Discover Gold in Your Life game allows participants to use the Heart of Gold Australia App to find the uses of gold in everyday life.

Once the game is finished, you can immerse yourself in the Golden Flair Challenge, demonstrating wind as a power source.

To complete the game, you will need to build a wind turbine that charges the batteries used to power a miniature car.

Then you can progress to the final game, the Gold Jobs Challenge. Here you need to answer seven questions to find out the careers which may suit you in the gold industry.

But the glistening fun does not stop here — there is a bonus round and an even bigger prize up for grabs.

To take part, head to the National Gold Education Program’s section, the Gold Rocks Challenge, and try your luck at guessing the names of the seven rock samples.

While everyone is encouraged to join the sparkling fun, the Gold Industry Group has centred their activities around education and encouragement to join their future workforce.

Gold Fields Superintendent: Environment and Community Ashleigh Shelton said she hoped their exhibition would motivate students to become the future adults who spearhead progress and innovation within the industry.

“We hope to inspire kids who are still in school to consider possible opportunities in the gold industry, mining, technology and renewables,” she said.

“If we can encourage just one child to move into the gold industry looking at clean energy technologies, the RTS will have been a success.”

The Resources Technology Showcase is free, and is open on June 21 and 22 from 9am – 4.30pm at PCEC.
