A few Dunsborough bodyboarding tragics have emerged winners in the State’s top-level competition held at Mandurah’s Wedge Island at the weekend.

The 2025 WA Bodyboard Championships saw South West surfers vie for honours against metro Perth’s best.

While the top open divisions were taken out by veterans Kai De Legh and Ebony Schell, Dunsborough’s Chad Jackson and Barry Hammond scored second and third in the over-35 masters section, while Hammond was the lone winner in the drop-knee division and also came second in the over-45 grand masters group.

South Bunbury’s Ry Tanner earned a notable mention coming second in the under-18 boys and Gelorup’s Darren Hotker was fourth in the over-45s.

Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks said the weekend display showed the future of the sport was in good hands with a strong junior dimension coming through.

“This event was a huge success, and we couldn’t be prouder of all our competitors,” he said.

“WA has a rich history of producing some of the best bodyboarders in the country, and with the Australian titles coming up in Sydney’s URBNSURF, this is just the beginning of what’s shaping up to be an incredible year for WA bodyboarding.”

The Australian titles will commence in Sydney later this year.
